		<description>Got the sound working again.  Turned out that the suggested fix worked, an unrelated upgrade caused HAL to go away in the interim (which nothing warned about. :)</description>

		<description>Sound does work when I use e.g. gstreamer-based applications, I looked in systemsettings and Phonon had the right device but said it couldn't load the driver or something like that.

I tried removing the rc file and re-logging in, and now there are simply no devices. :)  I'll keep trying though.</description>

After that I logged in to KDE4 and sound worked for KDE4 (Phonon), too. Hope this helps.</description>
